Search help

Enter your search terms in the search box and select the search button on the right hand-side. You can use single words or type in a whole sentence or phrase but try to use terms that are likely to be within the text of the documents you are searching for.

Search will find web pages and documents containing as many of these words and phrases as possible, ranked so that the documents most relevant to your query are shown first. Don't worry about missing a document because it doesn't have one of the terms in your query because Search returns relevant results even if they don't contain all query terms.

You can make your query more specific by selecting the buttons next to the search box.

  • Any words (the default setting) will return results that match any one of the words in your search.
  • All words will only return results that contain all the words in your search, but not necessarily together or in the same order.
  • Exact phrase will only return results which exactly match the phrase you type in the search box

Select Find in the title only to restrict results to web pages or documents that have your search terms in the title.

Your search results

Search results will show:

  • the title of the web page or document
  • an extract from the text that is likely to indicate what the page or document is about
  • the web address.

Select the title to view the web page or document.

If your search has found lots of results, they will be split over several pages. You will see 10 results on each page. Use the Previous or Next links to navigate through the results, or jump to the page you want by selecting the page number.

Related links

The right hand side will show a list of related links from other government departments. The most relevant matches for your search may not be on the DWP website, so it is always worth checking the related links as well.

Select More related links for a list of more links on a new search page.
